James Arthur "Jim" Boeheim (born November 17, 1944 in Lyons , New York ) is an American basketball coach.
Since 1976 he has coached the Syracuse University basketball team . In over 30 years he led the team in the Big East Conference to eight regular season championships and five successes in the play-offs. A team he led took part in the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship 28 times . After two unsuccessful finals in 1987 and 1996, his team won the title in 2003. Boeheim is the fifth most successful coach in college basketball after wins with over 850 wins .
In addition to his work in Syracuse, he was an assistant coach to the US national team at the 1990 World Cup , the 2006 World Cup , the 2008 Olympic Games and the 2010 World Cup . The team won two gold and two bronze medals. At the 2012 Olympic Games , Boeheim will once again look after the team as an assistant coach.
In 2005 Boeheim was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame .
