Jim Boyd (born 1956 at Edwards Air Force Base , Lancaster , California - June 21, 2016 ) was a singer / songwriter, actor and member of the Jim Boyd Band in the Colville Reservation in Washington . Boyd has played in various Native American music groups.

Life

Jim Boyd grew up as the son of a sergeant (master sergeant) on various American air force bases. He belonged to the Sinixt ( Arrow Lakes Band), one of twelve divisions of the Colville tribe , a subgroup of the Spokane . Boyd's grandfather was a Zurich citizen who emigrated to America in 1914 at the age of 18 and married a Colville Indian. When not at an airbase, the family lived in Inchelium, a town on the Colville Reservation in Ferry County , the area where both parents grew up. At the end of their father's service they moved to Inchelium.

After high school , Boyd enrolled at Washington University . It seemed so big and strange there that he returned to Inchelium after a few months. From then on he devoted himself to music. At sixteen he played in a band in his aunt's bar. Tom Bee , the owner and president of Sound of America Records saw the 23-year-old play and hooked him up with the band XIT in Albuquerque , with whom Jim was touring Europe. After XIT broke up, he was the lead singer in various Native American bands such as Winterhawk and Greywolf .

Boyd was a cultural officer on the Colville Business Council .
