Jim Lee (born August 11, 1964 in Seoul , South Korea ) is a South Korean- American comic book artist and publisher.

He began his career as an ink pen, but became famous as an illustrator on the Marvel Comics series Uncanny X-Men in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The series X-Men was started in 1991 after its great success for him and author Chris Claremont . X-Men # 1 is still the best-selling American comic of all time. After Claremont's early departure, Lee also briefly took on the role of writer on the series.

In 1992 Lee left Marvel and founded Image Comics with six other cartoonists ( Todd McFarlane , Marc Silvestri , Erik Larsen , Rob Liefeld , Jim Valentino and Whilce Portacio ) . Lee's studio within Image was named Wildstorm and became one of the more successful Image studios. His series WildC.ATS was one of the first image series and a great commercial success.

Lee and Liefeld briefly returned to Marvel between 1996 and 1997 to host an event dubbed Heroes Reborn . Lee took over the acts of the series Fantastic Four and Iron Man for a year and also signed the former title, Liefeld got the titles Captain America and The Avengers . While Liefeld was fired from Marvel early, Lee was able to close the year, but then ended the collaboration with Marvel as well.

In 2001 Lee left Image and sold Wildstorm to DC Comics after negotiations with Marvel failed. Lee had worked mainly as a publisher for some time and only sporadically drawn cover illustrations and pin-ups. In 2003 he returned to the drawing board and, together with author Jeph Loeb , created a twelve-part, highly successful Batman story with "Hush" . In 2004 he took over Superman with Brian Azzarello . In mid-2005, DC published the first issue of his co-production with another heavyweight of the American comic scene, Frank Miller : "All Star Batman & Robin the Boy Wonder".
