Jim Mooney (sound engineer)

James L. "Jim" Mooney (born March 30, 1934 in Kansas City (Missouri) , † May 4, 2015 ) was an American jazz trumpeter and sound engineer .

Life

Mooney came to Los Angeles with his family in 1939. After completing his military service with the US Air Force , where he was a trumpeter in a band, he worked for the Telephone Company and also played in various jazz clubs in the Los Angeles area. In 1970 he bought a recording studio in Hollywood, which was initially called Sage & Sand and was eventually renamed Sage & Sound . In the following thirty years he recorded numerous jazz musicians there such as Toshiko Akiyoshi , Chet Baker , Gary Bartz , Anthony Braxton ( Eight (+3) Tristano Compositions 1989: For Warne Marsh ), Conte Candoli , Pete Jolly , Irene Kral , Sam Most , Art Pepper , Bud Shank and Sonny Stitt , as well as film music and theme songs for TV shows. In 1998 he retired in Temecula .
