James "Jim" Sauter (born July 23, 1953 in Nyack , New Jersey ) is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( saxophones , electronics).

Sauter grew up in the suburbs of New York City ; He had his first saxophone lessons in the public school, where he met Don Dietrich , with whom he has been friends since then. Sauter worked in the American noise scene, initially with the 1979 American trio Borbetomagus , which also includes Don Dietrich and guitarist Donald Miller , and which has published numerous recordings to this day. In the 1990s Rudolph Gray also brought him into his formation Blue Humans (with Alan Licht , Arthur Doyle , Beaver Harris ), with which four albums were created. Sauter also played in the underground and rock bands God Is My Co-Pilot and Scarcity of Tanks . He also presented several duo and trio albums with Don Dietrich, Thurston Moore and the drummer Kid Millions . In the field of jazz, Tom Lord lists him in 42 recording sessions between 1979 and 2006. Sauter uses amplifiers and effects devices when he plays the saxophone . Sauter's main job is as a museum and exhibition designer at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in New York.
