Hermann Ernst Seraphim Adolf von Olszewski (born April 27, 1828 in Königsberg , † November 15, 1907 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Adolf was the son of Heinrich Seraphim von Olszewski (1794–1837) and his wife Malwine Margarete, born von Baczko (1802–1883). His father was a captain a. D. , last in the 3rd Infantry Regiment as well as Herr auf Porscheln, Prussian Eylau district . The two Prussian generals Heinrich von Olszewski (1823–1918) and Eugen von Olszewski (1826–1908) were his brothers.

Military career

Olszewski attended the higher middle school in his hometown as well as the cadet houses in Kulm and Berlin . He was then employed on May 2, 1846 as a musketeer in the 3rd Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army . There he was promoted to secondary lieutenant in August 1848 and served from November 1852 to the end of September 1857 as adjutant of the 2nd battalion. After his promotion to Prime Lieutenant Olszewski was from January to August 1858 as a company commander at III. Battalion in the 3rd Landwehr Regiment in Angerburg . In mid-January 1860 he was promoted to captain and was appointed company commander on May 13, 1861 . In this capacity, Olszewski took part in the battles near Trautenau and Königgrätz in 1866 during the war against Austria .

With the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France , Olszewski became commander of the 2nd Battalion in the East Prussian Landwehr Regiment No. 3 and in this position was aggregated as a major on July 20, 1870 in the 2nd East Prussian Grenadier Regiment No. 3 . He took part in the sieges of Neu-Breisach and Belfort and was particularly able to prove himself in the battle of the Lisaine . Shortly before the peace agreement , Olszewski returned as commander of the 2nd Battalion in the 2nd East Prussian Grenadier Regiment No. 3 and on July 20, 1871 received the Iron Cross 1st Class for the defense of Montbéliard Castle . Olszewski married on April 9, 1855 with Elisabeth Florentine Papendieck (1834-1891). After her death, he married Bianka Lessing (1844–1928) in Berlin on May 21, 1896. The first marriage resulted in several children, including the later Prussian major general Kurt von Olszewski (1860–1937).
