Eugen Feodor Karl Seraphim von Olszewski (born June 13, 1826 in Königsberg , † July 8, 1908 in Wiesbaden ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Eugen was the son of Heinrich Seraphim von Olszewski (1794–1837) and his wife Malwine Margarete, born von Baczko (1802–1883). His father was a captain a. D. , last in the 3rd Infantry Regiment as well as Herr auf Porscheln, Prussian Eylau district . The Prussian Lieutenant General Heinrich von Olszewski (1823–1918) and Adolf von Olszewski (1828–1907) were his brothers.

Military career

Olszewski attended the higher middle school in his hometown as well as the cadet houses in Kulm and Berlin . He was then hired on August 9, 1843 as a second lieutenant in the 3rd Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army . From 1850/51 and 1853/55 he was sent to the General War School for further training . Subsequently, Olszewski acted as prime lieutenant and examinator in history at the Examination Commission for Portepeefähnriche of the 1st Army Corps , and from May 1, 1857 to October 1, 1860 as a tactics teacher at the United Division School of the 1st Army Corps . After his promotion to captain , Olszewski became company commander in his main regiment. From there, on August 14, 1865, he was transferred to Luxembourg in the 6th Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 68 . During the German War , Olszewski led a battalion in 1866 and took part in the occupation of Hanover and the battle at Zorn . After the peace treaty he rose to major and was appointed commander of the fusilier battalion in early November 1867.

Olszewski led his fusiliers in 1870/71 in the war against France during the siege of Metz and the battles at Amiens , Hallue , Bapaume and Saint-Quentin . On the occasion of the imperial proclamation he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. Awarded both classes of the Iron Cross , Olszewski took command of the 5th Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 53 on July 18, 1872 . In this capacity he was promoted to colonel on March 22, 1873 and awarded the Order of the Crown, 2nd class, on September 8, 1877 . Under awarding of the character as a major general Olszewski was on May 14, 1878, the statutory pension for disposition made before him on July 9, 1878 farewell approved with board.

Olszewski married Christine Gertrud Papendieck (1840–1866) on October 29, 1858 in Königsberg. After her untimely death on October 2, 1872, he married Mathilde Luise Cornelia Katharina Waldorf (* 1848). Several children emerged from the marriages, including:
