James Edwin Glen "Jim" Upton (born June 3, 1940 in Coatbridge , † November 24, 2017 in Cardiff ) was a Scottish football player .
Career
Upton played in 1958/59 in "Junior Football" in Glasgow for the club St Roch's FC before he was committed in November 1959 by Celtic Glasgow . At Celtic he did not come as inserts in the youth and reserve team beyond the summer of 1961 he received a new contract and therefore left the club in August 1961 in the south of England and joined the in the Southern Football League playing FC Tonbridge on. In 1963 he was committed to a free transfer from Welsh club Cardiff City , who competed in the English Football League Second Division . At the start of the season, Upton benefited from an injury mishap of the club, in which he was not entirely uninvolved: in a public training match in the pre-season, he broke the leg of Cardiff defenders Alan Harrington and Trever Peck in tackles. Due to the failures of the competitors Upton came in September and October 1963 to some missions as a left defender. After five moderately successful second division appearances (one win, one draw) alongside Trevor Edwards and two appearances in the League Cup in 1963/64 against local rivals AFC Wrexham , he lost his place in the team after some teammates had recovered and left the club at the end of the season . In July 1964 Upton was the first signing of new coach of Bath City , Ivor Powell . In the following months he came to a total of 29 competitive appearances (no scoring) for the club competing in the Southern League, before he left the club again in March 1965 and no longer appeared in higher-class football.
Upton died at the age of 77 in Cardiffer University Hospital of Wales .
