Jindřich Fügner
Jindřich Fügner (born August 10, 1822 in Prague as Heinrich Anton Fügner , † November 15, 1865 ibid) was a Czech businessman and sports official.
Life
Fügner was a trader who acquired a broad general knowledge and spoke several languages in a long-term, partly foreign study. He inherited the family business from his father and later took over the management of an insurance agency.
In addition to his job, he devoted himself to his hobbies music and sports and was very interested in society. When he met Miroslav Tyrš in the circles of the Czech national movement , he helped him implement the idea of founding a gymnastics union. Fügner then became the first chairman of the Sokol Pražský , which was newly established on February 16, 1862 . He earned the credit of building the first gymnasium in Prague. With his experience and organizational talent, he supported the work of his ten years younger friend and the main figure of the movement. Due to Fügner's personal attitude, the Sokol gymnastics club was democratically shaped.
