The Jiotto Caspita is a mid-engined sports car from the Japanese car manufacturer Dome and was presented as the premiere of the year in 1989 . A planned series production as the successor to the Dome P-2 did not take place due to lack of interest. Only 3 copies were made, two of which are in a car museum, the third is privately owned.
prehistory
The model was created in cooperation with the Kyoto clothing manufacturer Wacoal Corporation , which was financially supported by Dome at the time. Company director Jiotto Giotto got the idea. Dome took on the development and construction, while chief designer Kunihisa Ito took on the design of the vehicle. The model should be given an aerodynamic shape. At the same time, the Japanese government enforced that even Formula 1 vehicles could be driven on public roads, which the company Dome and Jiotto Giotto hoped that the new model could be a success. Jiotto also sponsored the Dome racing team accordingly.
The Jiotto Caspita
In the same year, the production of the vehicle parts and the assembly of the still unnamed super sports car began . Finally, a mid-engined sports car with a notchback body emerged . The wide rear should press the vehicle onto the road at high speeds and make it manageable even in dangerous bends. The rear spoiler should reinforce this effect. Now Yamaha has established its Yamaha OX99-11 on the market, which was the first Japanese super sports car to go into series production. Dome hoped for the same result and even signed a contract with the British Department of Transport to import the now-named Jiotto Caspita . In a frenzy of success, both companies finally even planned to build a production hall in a Tokyo industrial park . Now the two models built have been equipped with a flat V12 boxer engine from the Motori Moderni brand . With a displacement of 3497 cm³ , the two Caspitas offer an output of 335.6 kW with a maximum torque of 362 Nm . Both Caspitas have rear-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission . Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h can be achieved in 4.7 seconds . The tank volume is even 100 liters . The top speed is 320 km / h.
Premiere of the production model
As a pre-announced premiere of the year , Dome presented its third copy of the Jiotto Caspita in 1990 at the 28th Tokyo Motor Show . This example had a 430 kW V10 engine, with which Dome finally planned its series production. However, there were no orders until 1993 and the project was then discontinued.
