Jiribam is a city in the state of Manipur in northeast India . The population is 6,426 (2001 census).

Jiribam is located in the far west of Manipur, directly on the border with the neighboring state of Assam, 50 kilometers east of Silchar and 216 kilometers west of Manipur's capital Imphal . The border with Assam is marked by the Jiri , a tributary of the Barak , on whose eastern bank lies Jiribam. Geomorphologically, the Jiribam area adjoins the lowlands of the Barak Valley in southern Assam and thus differs significantly from the rest of Manipur. The height above sea level is only 30 meters. To the east of Jiribam rise the Patkai Mountains, which shield the Manipur Valley from the plain. The population of Jiribam is ethnically mixed and consists of Meitei , Bengal , Naga and Kuki .

Jiribam was until 2016 the capital of the sub-division of the same name in the Imphal East district . Their area was 185 square kilometers, the population 37,792 (2001 census). The sub-division Jiribam formed an exclave of the Imphal East district and is separated from the rest of the district by the area of the Tamenglong and Senapati districts. The district capital Imphal, on the other side of the mountains, was a twelve-hour bus ride away. Therefore, there have been efforts for a long time to raise the sub-division Jiribam to an independent district. With effect from December 9, 2016, this was raised to a separate district.

Jiribam is the western "gateway to Manipur". The National Highway 37 runs through the village from Silchar to Imphal, one of two main access routes to Manipur. Jiribam is also connected to the railway network via a branch line from Silchar. Jiribam Railway Station is the only manipur. An extension to Imphal is under construction. In the longer term, there are ambitious plans to continue the route to Southeast Asia .
