João Aguardela

João Aguardela (born February 2, 1969 in Lisbon , † January 18, 2009 ibid) was a Portuguese singer and musician.

He co-founded the popular folk / pop-rock band Sitiados and the innovative fado- pop group A Naifa . On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution , the political pop project Linha da Frente was founded in 1999 , where Aguardela worked with musicians from bands such as Delfins , Kussondulola , Entre Aspas and others. a. Poems by Fernando Pessoa , Ary dos Santos , Manuel Alegre a . a. set to music.

With his solo project Megafone, he released four albums on which he set parts of the folk music collection created by the music ethnologist Michel Giacometti (1929–1990) to music using electronic music . All albums are released for free download by the Megafon 5 association , which holds the copyright to the works published under Megafone, and which is dedicated to Aguardela's work. Megafone 5 awards the Prémio Megafone every two years for future-oriented projects of Portuguese music traditions.

On January 18, 2009, Aguardela died of stomach cancer in the Hospital da Luz hospital in his hometown of Lisbon. In 2011 the biography João Aguardela - Esta Vida de Marinheiro was published.
