João Alves de Souza

João Alves de Souza (born January 5, 1958 ) is a former Brazilian long-distance runner .

At the South American Athletics Championships in 1985 he won bronze over 5000 m and silver over 10,000 m . In 1989 he was South American runner-up in cross-country skiing .

In the same year he finished second in the Frankfurt Marathon behind Herbert Steffny with his personal best of 2:14:04 h and won the Calvià Marathon . In 1991 he won the Munich Marathon .
