João Paulo Brito (born June 5, 1974 ) is a former Portuguese football player .

Brito moved on January 27, 2006 to the then regional league club SSV Jahn Regensburg , where he was to be used as a replacement for striker Enrico Kern . He already played for the Bulgarian first division club CSKA Sofia .

Due to an injury at the training camp of SSV Jahn Regensburg in Turkey , Brito was unable to play for the rest of the season. His contract was not extended after the SSV's relegation. This course of events made him the "phantom player" of the SSV. In retrospect, his commitment is very much ridiculed, as the club's management previously announced that they had “committed a player whom the regional league has not yet seen”. This had also turned out to be true, since Brito did not play a game for Jahn.
