Joachim Ringelnatz Museum, Cuxhaven

The Joachim Ringelnatz Museum in Cuxhaven was founded in November 2002.

It is supported by the nationwide Joachim Ringelnatz Foundation , established in summer 2001 , which looks after the estate and the memory of the writer and painter Joachim Ringelnatz . The museum is located in a historic half-timbered building on Südersteinstrasse , directly across from Ritzebüttel Castle . In a permanent exhibition, alongside manuscripts, books and photographs, it shows drawings, watercolors and oil paintings by the poet and painter whose literary works were destroyed in the book burning in Germany in 1933 and his pictures as part of the Degenerate Art campaignThey were removed from museums and collections by the National Socialists in 1937. A focus of the museum presentation, which is supported by an audio guide for children and young people, is also the German history of the early 20th century and the road to National Socialism. Regular special exhibitions and lectures are dedicated to related topics.

The museum is financed exclusively from its own income; It is also supported by the Ringelnatz Society, also based in Cuxhaven . V.
