Joachim Andersen
Carl Joachim Andersen (born April 29, 1847 in Copenhagen , † May 7, 1909 in Bagsværd near Copenhagen) was a Danish flautist , conductor and composer .
Life
Andersen's father Christian Joachim (* 1816) was a flautist who initially taught his son (as did his brother Vigo, 1852–1895, who also became a flautist). Joachim Andersen first appeared in public at the age of 13. After that he was first flutist in the Copenhagen Music Association under Niels Gade until 1868 . He then moved to the royal court orchestra. In 1877 he became a member of the Imperial Chapel in St. Petersburg . In 1881 he moved to Berlin and worked as a solo flutist at the Royal Opera and in what was then the Bilse'schen Orchestra. In 1882 he became one of the founding members of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and, as its solo flutist, increasingly took on conducting duties; he conducted one of the orchestra's two daily concerts in Scheveningen for eight summers .
In 1893 Andersen gave up his position with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, forced by paralysis of the tongue, and returned to Copenhagen, where he worked as a conductor, among other things as director of the concerts at Tivoli . In 1897 he founded an orchestra school and received the title of professor as its director and conductor shortly before his death. In 1905 the Danish King Christian IX awarded him . the Knight's Cross of the Danebrog Order .

Andersen's catalog of works includes 67 compositions with opus numbers, which were composed mainly for his instrument, the flute, including solo pieces and works with piano accompaniment, as well as concertante pieces. Some of his etudes are still used in flute lessons today. His Honnörmarsch Kronprinz Christians (in honor of the then Danish Crown Prince) gained popularity .
