Joachim Hildebrand (born November 10, 1623 in Walkenried Monastery ; † October 18, 1691 in Celle ) was a German Lutheran theologian, professor at the University of Helmstedt and general superintendent of the general diocese of Lüneburg-Celle .

Life

Hildebrand was a son of the monastery prior and pastor Friedrich Hildebrand. From 1640 he attended the school in Nordhausen , 1641 the University of Jena , 1642 Leipzig , 1643 Helmstedt and received his doctorate in philosophy and master's degree in liberal arts there on January 10, 1644. He took up his first position as vice principal at the school in Wolfenbüttel . He returned to Helmstedt in 1646, however, and read there philosophical and philological colleges, from 1648 also theology and Christian antiquity. In 1652 Hildebrand was given a full professorship in theology and Christian antiquities. On June 21, 1653 he received the title of D. theol. In 1662 he turned down the German preacher position in Copenhagen, but in the same year accepted the call of Duke Christian Ludwig to the position of first pastor at the city ​​church of St. Mary in Celle and general superintendent of the general diocese of Lüneburg-Celle.
