Joachim Johow

Joachim Johow (born November 29, 1952 in Berlin ) is a German composer , musician and music teacher . He lives and works in Berlin-Reinickendorf .

Life

From 1972 to 1979 Johow studied violin and piano at the Hochschule der Künste (HdK) Berlin, specializing in school music. Then he began his work as a teacher at the Georg-Herwegh-Oberschule . Johow has composed and arranged numerous pieces in different styles. In school lessons he gained many years of experience with school orchestras (string and brass orchestras) and choirs.

From 1992 to 2000 he was director of the KlezMischpoche, a klezmer orchestra in Berlin-Lübars . Composition work and direction of the klezmer musicals Masseltov , Oifn Jorid and the folklorical Die Regentrude after Theodor Storm as well as numerous concerts in the LabSaal a. a. with Giora Feidman and Harrys Freilach.

He was co-founder and director of the musical ensemble Mimikry from 2001-2009. The ensemble played international folklore, tangos, musette waltzes, Irish and Hungarian pieces, new klezmer music, including original compositions and arrangements by Joachim Johow. In 2002 The Search for Happiness , a fantastic musical story with song, dance, acrobatics and drama, was performed in the hall of the Berlin University of the Arts . One of the main actors was Hans Marquardt .

In 2010 Johow became the director and founder of the Berliner Ensemble I Felici, who play traditional music and original compositions by J. Johow.

Joachim Johow composed a piece of music for Mordechai Vanunu on the occasion of the awarding of the Carl von Ossietzky Medal , which premiered on December 12, 2010 in the Berlin Grips Theater .

In 2013 the title Di Mechaje (Joy) from the volume All Time Klezmer was used for a perfume commercial. In 2013 Tango for Pachelbel premiered on the Japan and China tour of the Philharmonic Violins of the Berliner Philharmoniker under the direction of Laurentius Dinca.

Johow has published around 40 volumes of music with various international publishers (including de haske, Fentone, Edition-Hug, Fidula-Verlag , Uetz-Verlag, Eres-Verlag) with Klezmer music, Rounds, Irish Folk, Swing . In the field of music education , he published Little Tiger's Walk - A Musical Expedition .

CDs

Klezmer musicals from the KlezMischpoche, under the direction of Joachim Johow, have been released on music CD by Profile: Oifn Jorid and Heimwärts gen Eden . There is also a CD with the title scrambled eggs (street music, folklore, jazz) u. a. Own compositions and arrangements by J. Johow.
