Joachim Lell

Joachim Lell (born February 5, 1916 in Heidenheim an der Brenz , † November 11, 1993 in Bensheim ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian and long-time director of the Denominational Institute in Bensheim.

After his vicariate in Ulm, Lell was pastor in Stuttgart from 1952. On November 1, 1957, he took over the office of Federal Director of the Evangelical Federation , which involved working in the Confessional Institute of the Federation in Bensheim. In 1963, his predecessor as federal director, Wolfgang Sucker , who had only worked part-time as director of the institute since 1957, also handed over management to Lell, which he held until his retirement in 1981.

Lell published numerous books and essays on topics of denominational studies and ecumenical theology and was active in many committees, including the Catholica conference of the EKD . In 1968 the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen awarded him an honorary doctorate . From 1980 he had a teaching position at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and was made an honorary professor in 1985.
