Vironchaux ( Picard : Vironcheu ) is a northern French municipality with 491 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Abbeville and is part of the Communauté de communes Ponthieu-Marquenterre and the canton of Rue .

geography

The community is located on the Ponthieu plateau around five kilometers northwest of Crécy-en-Ponthieu . It includes the farms Le Grand Mezoutre and Le Petit Mezoutre in the northeast, Le Tronquoi in the northwest, and the hamlet of Le Cornet northwest of the core community.

history

Finds indicate settlement in the Gallic period. The Knights Templar owned a domain in Vironchaux. In 1635 Spanish troops looted the place.
