Woignarue is a French municipality with 816 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Somme department in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement Abbeville and the Canton of Friville-Escarbotin .

geography

The center of the seaside resort Woignarue is located on the western edge of the Vimeu , 3.5 kilometers northeast of Ault , three kilometers east of the coast of the English Channel , 24 kilometers west of Abbeville and about seven kilometers north of the Bresle , which marks the border with the Normandy region . The municipality consists of two parts, in the east there is the center ( bourg ) on the Vimeu and in the west there is a cliff called falaise morte (dead cliff), which is followed by a stone beach.

history

Between 1790 and 1794 the seaside resort Onival was incorporated. In 1793, during the French Revolution , Woignarue was granted the status of a municipality and in 1801 the right to local self-government. In the 19th and 20th centuries, Onival was expanded north to what is now the municipality of Woignarue. Onival itself is now part of Ault.

politics

Woignarue is part of the Communauté de communes Bresle Maritime .

The community has had a partnership with the German town of Wehrden , which belongs to Beverungen , since 1965 .

Attractions

The old safe factory in Woignarue was built around 1891. When the factory closed in 1988, it had 33 employees. It is marked as an industrial monument .

The Sainte-Marie-Madeleine church was built in the 17th century and remodeled in the 19th century.

economy

The image of the community is dominated by agriculture, the main occupations are arable farming , feed production and the breeding of domestic cattle, domestic pigs and domestic sheep. There is a copper foundry in Woignarue.
