Gapennes ( Picard : Gapeinne ) is a northern French municipality with 281 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Abbeville and is part of the Communauté de communes Ponthieu-Marquenterre and the canton of Abbeville-1 .
geography
Gapennes is located in the Ponthieu largely east of the D12 departmental road, which leads from Saint-Riquier, around five km away , to Crécy-en-Ponthieu , 11 km away . The isolated homestead Le Quesnoy in the northwest belongs to the municipality.
history
Stone tools and Roman pottery were found in Gapennes. In 831 the rulership was with the Abbey of Saint-Riquier . In 1524 and 1632 the village was burned down by Spanish troops. At the end of the 19th century there was a brick factory. In 1944 the church was completely destroyed in a bombardment of the nearby Wehrmacht missile launching base .
