Fontaine-sur-Somme ( Picard : Fontainne-su-sonme ) is a northern French municipality with 518 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the Arrondissement of Abbeville and is part of the Communauté d'agglomération de la Baie de Somme and the canton of Gamaches .
geography
The community, traversed by the railway line following the course of the river, is located around seven kilometers northeast of Hallencourt in the Somme valley on the south bank of the river. The municipality includes the districts of Vieulaines in the east and Rue Clabaut on the road crossing the Somme to Cocquerel , La Grande Rue and Rue Verte in the floodplain with its ponds. The hamlet of Le Câtelet on the eastern municipal boundary largely belongs to the neighboring municipality of Long .
history
During the Hundred Years War in 1346, the English troops were prevented from crossing the Somme by the French troops. In 1763 there was a spectacular attempted poisoning in the castle of Vieulaines.
