The dunes |
Fort-Mahon-Plage is a northern French municipality with 1259 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Abbeville and is part of the Communauté de communes Ponthieu-Marquenterre and the canton of Rue .
geography
Located around 13 km north-northwest of Rue and south of the estuary of the Authie , enclosed by the municipality of Quend, the municipality in the Marquenterre occupies the extreme northwestern part of the coast between the mouth of the Authie and the Somme . The place has an extensive fine sandy beach, behind the dunes is marshland to the east. In the sea, the Parc Naturel marin des Estuaires Picards et de la Mer d'Opale connects to the coast. The district of Le Vieux Fort-Mahon belongs to the municipality.
The steam tram from Quend-Plage and Fort-Mahon , which opened in 1903, has been out of service since 1931.
history
The settlement of the place did not start until 1790. It was separated from the community of Quend in 1923. The expansion as a seaside resort began on a larger scale in the 1950s. Fort-Mahon-Plage has been classified as a seaside resort (station balnéaire) since 2006.

Fort-Mahon-Plage has numerous facilities of a seaside resort and an 18-hole golf course.
