Grand-Laviers ( Picard : Grand-Lavier ) is a northern French municipality with 433 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Abbeville and is part of the Communauté d'agglomération de la Baie de Somme and the canton of Abbeville-1 .

geography

The municipality is located northwest of Abbeville then on the north bank of the Canal Maritime d'Abbeville à Saint-Valery. In the north it extends over the A16 autoroute , in the east over the A28 autoroute . The railway line from Abbeville to Boulogne-sur-Mer runs through the municipality. The municipality of Petit-Laviers in the Somme floodplain belongs to Grand-Laviers . The forest Bois de Bonance belongs to the municipality.

history

A castle mound was built in the 11th century. The feudal property was sold to the Carthusian Order in 1349 ; it subsequently changed rulers several times. The work to canalize the Somme up to the mouth began in 1786, but the canal could not be opened until 1827. The railway line was built between 1845 and 1850. In 1940 the place with Abbeville suffered severe destruction. In 1976 the municipality of Petit Laviers was incorporated into Grand-Laviers.
