Woincourt is a commune with 1,268 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Somme department in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement Abbeville , the canton Friville-Escarbotin and the local authority association Vimeu .
geography
Woincourt is located in northern France on the southern edge of the Somme department in Vimeu , about 8 kilometers from the English Channel . The next bigger city Abbeville is the seat of the sub-prefecture of the arrondissement of the same name. It is 22 kilometers away and faces northeast. Woincourt's direct neighbors are Tully in the northwest, Fressenneville in the east, Embreville in the southeast and Yzengremer in the southwest. The municipality covers 418 hectares and is located at an average height of 105 meters above sea level , the Mairie stands at an altitude of 99 meters.
Woincourt is assigned to a type Cfb (according to Köppen and Geiger) climate zone : warm, moderate rainy climate (C), fully humid (f), warmest month below 22 ° C, at least four months above 10 ° C (b). There is a maritime climate with a moderate summer.
Culture and sights
The war memorial was designed by the architect Pierre Chirol (1881–1953) and erected in 1921.
In the church of Saint-Martin there is a listed chest of a Confrérie de charité ('Brotherhood of Mercy') from the 17th century. The chest has three locks. The keys to the chest were held by the aldermen , the provost and the clerc (" cleric ") of the brotherhood.
A listed relief from the 16th century, showing Mary Magdalene with two riders , was stolen from the church on September 16, 2002.
Economy and Infrastructure
Woincourt train station opened in the 19th century. The railway line then led to the sea in Ault . The station is now just a stop and is served by trains on the Le Tréport - Abbeville - Amiens - Paris des Transport express régional (TER) line.
There are controlled designations of origin (AOC) for lamb (Prés-salés de la baie de Somme) in the municipality . The lambs graze in the salty meadows of the Somme Bay .
