Oneux is a northern French municipality with 389 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Abbeville and is part of the Communauté de communes Ponthieu-Marquenterre and the canton of Rue .

geography

The municipality is located around 2.5 kilometers east-northeast of Saint-Riquier and 6.5 kilometers north of Ailly-le-Haut-Clocher . It includes the villages of Neuville in the dry valley Vallée de Neuville south of the eponymous district and Le Festel far to the east near the Chaussée Brunehaut (today's D108). Some buildings that border the hamlet of Hanchy in the municipality of Coulonvillers also belong to Oneux. The route of the abandoned railway line from Doullens to Abbeville (now Voie verte, Traverse du Ponthieu ) runs through the municipality .

history

Saint Martin Church

The community used to pay homage to the Count of Ponthieu . It was first mentioned in 830, when Louis the Pious left the village and the associated lands to the Abbey of Saint-Riquier as a fief. The place is documented again in the years 900 (as sylva olnodioli ), 1184 (as onnodium ), 1301 (as onneu ) and 1492 (as Honneu ). The abbots of Saint-Riquier built a castle in Oneux, which during the reign of Louis XV. was destroyed.

After the main town burned down around 1660, it was moved about two kilometers to the south. The Saint-Martin church, which also replaced the dilapidated church in nearby Neuville, was built in 1689/90. In 1782 the sacristy was added and the bell gable was replaced in 1861 by a bell tower with two side towers.
