Quend (IPA: / kɛ /; Picard Tchin , dutch Kent ) is a northern commune with 1,396 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Somme department in the region Picardieim Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Abbeville and is part of the Communauté de communes Ponthieu-Marquenterre and the canton of Rue .
geography
The municipality in the Marquenterre , located about five kilometers north-northwest of Rue , occupies the northern part of the coastline between the mouth of the Authie and the Somme , including the area of the municipality of Fort-Mahon-Plage . The railway line from Amiens to Boulogne-sur-Mer runs in the east of the municipality. To Quend belong (from the east) the municipalities of La Gare, Le Vieux Quend, Hère, Froise, Monchaux, Routhiauville. La Dune Fleurie and Quend-Plage on the dune coast as well as numerous individual farms. The fine sand beach is 15 kilometers long. In the sea, the Parc Naturel marin des Estuaires Picards et de la Mer d'Opale connects to the coast.
The station is no longer served and the two small train lines have been shut down since 1934.
history
Finds show a Roman settlement. In 1515 the dikes were renewed. The historic municipality of Marquenterre was dissolved in 1791 and Quend became an independent municipality. 1923 Fort-Mahon-Plage was detached from the municipality and became an independent municipality.
