Joachim Schlaich

Joachim Schlaich (* 1924 ) is a former German diplomat .

Life

Schlaich worked in Colombia  in the 1960s . From 1965 to 1967 he was chairman of the church council of the parish of Saint Michael in Bogotá .

In 1970, Schlaich became a lecturer in the first class of the Legation and Head of the Department for Foreign Policy Principles of Development Aid, Principles of Capital Aid and Guarantees in Foreign Trade and Capital Export at the Foreign Office . In 1972 he took over the management of the newly designed Foreign Policy Principles of Development Aid, Principles of Capital Aid and Development Aid of the European Communities in the Foreign Office.

In 1975 Schlaich became the first ambassador and permanent representative at the UN Conference on Disarmament (UNCD) in Geneva . He remained in this post until 1977 and was then replaced by Gerhard Pfeiffer .

In 1983 he was again ambassador to Colombia. Towards the end of his term, there was a visit to the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation Jürgen Warnke at the President of Colombia Virgilio Barco to insure that the support of the Federal Government in the fight against the local drug cartels. The visit was not supported by Schlaich, however, as the German colony in Colombia could be endangered and the interests of German industry could be impaired.
