Joachim Stoermer

Joachim Stoermer (born February 29, 1924 in Bremen ; † August 20, 2002 in Essen ) was a German pediatric cardiologist in Göttingen and Essen.

Life

Joachim Stoermer was the son of Colonel Alfred Stoermer. He spent his school days in Bremen, Münster, Stettin and Hanover, where he passed the school leaving examination in 1942. In the same year he began his medical studies at the University of Göttingen . After passing his exams and training as a pediatrician in Göttingen , he completed his habilitation there in pediatrics (1960) and pediatric cardiology (1962). In 1966 he was appointed associate professor . In 1973 the University of Essen appointed him to the new pediatric cardiology chair . With a heart catheter laboratory and an EKG unit, he expanded his department into a highly modern and efficient center. Major advances in pediatric cardiac surgery are due to his preparatory work. He held leading positions in numerous professional associations. As President of the German Society for Pediatric Cardiology , he organized its congress in Essen in 1980. In 1989 he retired .

Since 1943 he was a member of the Corps Hannovera Göttingen . As students historian, he worked on from Franz Stadtmüller published history of the Corps Hannovera Göttingen 1809-1959 with and was responsible from his own experience, the presentation of the history of the continued existence of the Corps as camaraderie in the Third Reich . In 1996, as editor, he was also responsible for updating the history of the Corps Hannovera zu Göttingen 1959–1994 . Hannovera awarded him honorary membership in the 1996 summer semester for his services. In 1980, during his time in Essen, he received the Ribbon of the Corps Neoborussia Berlin zu Bochum .
