After the end of the war he was employed by Siemens and Halske in the commercial area.

He belonged to the Bund Young Bavaria . As a company commander, he took part in the Hitler putsch in Munich on November 9, 1923 . At the beginning of October 1929 he joined the NSDAP ( membership number 153,701). In 1930 he became a local councilor in Unterschondorf, where he was the first mayor from March to May 1933. For the NSDAP he was first deputy district leader of the Landsberg am Lech district in 1932 and then from October 1933 on there long-standing honorary district leader until the end of January 1945. Due to the large number of his functions, he was recalled by Gauleiter Paul Giesler from the district leader's office. Since 1935 he was also a district judge . From 1940 to 1942 he was deputy Gauleiter in the Munich-Upper Bavaria district . During the Second World War, Moltke replaced the deceased MP Ludwig Siebert on November 28, 1942 in the German National Socialist Reichstag, which had already become insignificant at that time, as a representative for the constituency of Upper Bavaria-Swabia.

Joachim von Moltke should not be confused with Joachim Wolfgang (Jowo) von Moltke, who was born in 1909 and was a younger brother of the resistance fighter Helmuth James von Moltke .
