Joakim Eskildsen

Joakim Eskildsen ([ ˈjɔɑkɪm ˈɛskɪldsən ]; * December 22, 1971 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish photography artist and photographer .

Location

Eskildsen was a student of the court photographer Rigmor Mydtskov in Copenhagen and went to Helsinki in 1994 to learn the craft of making photographic books at Pentti Sammallahti at the School of Art and Design there . He has exhibitions in Europe (Germany, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Poland, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain), in China, in Florida, in South Korea and emerged in South Africa.

Works

The Roma trips

Eskildsen worked with the writer Cia Rinne in seven European countries from 2000 to 2006. a. of the East visited the Roma and in India ethnic groups that may be related to the Roma. On the basis of several weeks of shared life with the people concerned, the work Die Romareisen emerged, which through its text and over 200 epic portraits and milieu studies gives an insight into the cosmos of the Roma. The photographs of the work are praised as the soulful creations of an artist who consciously penetrates the atmosphere on site and tries to understand the everyday life and lifestyle of the people he portrays.
