Joachim Holbek

Joachim Holbek (born November 12, 1957 in Kongens Lyngby , Denmark ) is a Danish composer .

Life

Joachim Holbek is the son of the actor Hanne Holbek . His mother married the writer Aksel Sandemose in 1962 and moved the family to Norway, so that the family grew up there in Søndeled . After Sandemose died in 1965, his mother married the journalist Odd Hjorth-Sørensen . His older sister, the filmmaker Cæcilia Holbek Trier , was married to Lars von Trier from 1987 to 1996 . During his youth he moved to Copenhagen , where he began playing as a drummer in various rock and jazz bands. After a few years he began to work as a teacher in addition to his musicianship, so that he established relationships with dance theater that enabled him to compose for theater plays and dance performances for the first time.

As the brother-in-law of the filmmaker Lars von Trier, he was given the opportunity in 1988 to make his debut as a film composer with a film music composed by him for his drama Medea . Other joint projects followed with Europa and Freeze - Nightmare Night Watch . By 1999 Holbek had been awarded the renowned Robert Film Prize four times for best film music . He received a nomination for the European Film Prize 2005 as best composer for his music in von Trier's drama Manderlay .
