Joan Brull
Joan Brull i Vinyoles (born June 24, 1863 in Barcelona , † February 12, 1912 there ) was a Catalan painter of symbolism .
life and work
Joan Brull studied painting at the La Llotja art school in Barcelona with Simó Gómez and for two years in Paris at the Academie Colarossi with Raphaël Collin . He later worked as an art critic for the Catalan magazine Joventut ( Catalan for "youth"). He took part in a wide variety of intellectual groups of the era, including Els Quatre Gats and Real Círculo Artístico de Barcelona (Royal Circle of Artists). He was friends with Ramon Casas and Santiago Rusiñol . In 1896 he won first prize at the Barcelona World's Fair with his work Ensomni .
Brull's early work was realistic. Later he mainly painted dreamy, dreamy female figures as well as portraits of women and girls. In addition, he created landscapes. As a landscape painter he is assigned to the Olot School .
