Joan Evans (* 18th July 1934 in New York as Joan Eunson ) is an American actress .

Life

Joan Evans was born Joan Eunson in New York City in 1934. Her parents were screenwriters Dale Eunson (1904-2002) and Katherine Albert (1902-1970), who worked in the film and stage business. Her godmother was the actress Joan Crawford , from whom she also got her first name. Evans was already on stage at the age of eight.

At the age of fourteen she was discovered by the film producer Samuel Goldwyn during a talent search . Her film debut was in 1949 Evans at the age of fifteen years in the lead role as Roseanna McCoy in the film drama decision by the river on the side of Farley Granger , with whom she starred in the course of her career in two other films. Evans was only fourteen when Roseanna McCoy was cast , which is why her parents passed her off for two years older. Also through the commitment of her parents, she got the lead role in the youth drama On the Loose in 1951 , in which Melvyn Douglas and Lynn Bari played her film parents . The script for the film was written by Dale Eunson and Katherine Albert and tailored to their daughter.

In 1952, only seventeen-year-old Evans expressed a desire to marry car salesman Kirby Weatherly. Her parents were against marriage because they thought Evans was too young. They asked their godmother, Joan Crawford, to invite Evans and Weatherly to their house and talk to them not to marry. Instead, she invited a registrar and the press to her house, where Evans and Weatherly were married. Crawford later called Evan's parents to inform them of the wedding.

In the following years Evans starred in several film productions, including some leading roles. In 1952 she starred as Diana Baxter in the comedy It Grows on Trees . In 1953 she played the female lead as Marcy Whitlock in the Western Column South . From 1956 Evans was also increasingly seen as a guest in various television series. This includes appearances in the western series Cheyenne , Outlaws and At the foot of the blue mountains as well as in the crime series 77 Sunset Strip . In 1961 she finally ended her acting career at the age of only 27. In total, Evans has appeared in more than 30 films and television series in her twelve-year career.

Joan Evans was married to Kirby Weatherly until his death. The couple had two children together.
