Joan Trimble
Joan Trimble (born June 18, 1915 in Enniskillen , Northern Ireland , † August 6, 2000 there ) was an Irish composer and pianist .
The granddaughter of the Irish poet William Copeland Trimble studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music from 1931 to 1936 and at Trinity College in Dublin from 1932 to 1936 . From 1936 to 1940 she studied at the Royal College of Music in London with Arthur Benjamin , Ralph Vaughan Williams and Herbert Howells . From 1938 she formed a piano duo with her sister Valerie Trimble and performed as a pianist. She composed piano pieces, songs, a string suite (1951) and the piece Érin go Brágh for wind orchestra. Her main work is the opera Blind Raftery from 1957.
