Joanna Erbel
Joanna Agnieszka Erbel (born May 2, 1984 in Warsaw ) is a Polish sociologist. She is also an activist of the Warsaw alternative scene, feminist, doctoral candidate and lecturer at the Institute of Sociology at the University of Warsaw , member of the editorial board of “ Krytyka Polityczna ”.
Life
After completing her studies in sociology in 2008, she stayed at Warsaw University as a research assistant and is doing her doctoral thesis. In her scientific work she is a. with gender studies. She also translates books on sociology.
She became well known in Warsaw thanks to her activities in the alternative scene. She collected signatures against the increase in ticket prices on public transport, against the demolition of the wooden detached house settlement "Jazdów" from the 1940s, against the forced evacuation of the apartments of less well-off people who are unable to pay their rent, against the closure of the " Prasowy ”milk bar on Marszałkowska Street , where pensioners and students have been able to afford cheap meals for almost sixty years.
In 2013, her activities for the benefit of the Warsaw population brought her the “Stołek” - a prize from the Warsaw edition of the “ Gazeta Wyborcza ” daily newspaper in the form of a red painted stool.
The Izabela Jaruga Nowacka Foundation , which bears the name of the Sejm MPs who were killed in the plane crash near Smolensk on April 10, 2010 , awarded her the “glasses of equality” for her work.
She tried to apply for the post of President of the capital Warsaw (e.g. Lord Mayor) in the local elections on November 16, 2014 with the support of the Warsaw Greens and received 15,030 votes in the first ballot, i.e. H. 2.41% of the valid votes.
She is a member of the Council for the Administration of the Warsaw Participation Budget in the Office of the President of Warsaw.
When she came out as bisexual in the LGBT monthly publication “Replika”, she caused a scandal.
