Life

Jobst von Bodelschwingh came from the Rhenish - Westphalian noble family von Bodelschwingh , which had its origin in the county of Mark and from which numerous well-known personalities emerged. He was the son of Wennemar von und zu Bodelschwingh (1543–1583), who was married to Katharina von Bronckhorst and Batenburg in his first marriage and to Elisabeth Isabella von Wachtendonck zu Germenseel in his second marriage. Jobst's brother Wennemar was canon in Mainz and Würzburg . In 1586 he received a cathedral praise from Münster and was emancipated three years later. He was also the canon in Xanten . On April 4, 1594 he announced his wish to renounce the benefice and named Heinrich von Düngelen as his successor. The cathedral chapter expressed concerns about this in view of his state of health. Jobst waived in favor of the Turnar Dietrich von Plettenberg. On June 5, 1594, he gave the prebend to Heinrich von Düngelen. Jobst married Jodoca (Josina) von Raesfeld , daughter of Reiner von Raesfeld and his wife Stephana von Mechelen zu Sandbot in 1595. The sons Franz and Reinhard emerged from the marriage. The latter married Anna Felicitas von Oeynhausen († June 26, 1669), who inherited the Velmede house in Weddinghofen .
