Jocelyne Binet

Jocelyne Binet (born September 27, 1923 in East Angus , Québec , † January 13, 1968 in Québec ) was a Canadian composer, pianist and music teacher.

Life

Binet studied composition and music theory with Claude Champagne and piano with Jean Dansereau and Jean-Marie Beaudet at the École Vincent-d'Indy . In 1948 she went to the Conservatoire de Paris , where Tony Aubin , Noël Gallon and Olivier Messiaen were her teachers.

In 1951 she returned to Canada, where she taught at the École Vincent-d'Indy until 1957. She also taught at the summer camps of the Jeunesses musicales du Canada (JMC) from 1952 to 1961 , from 1957 to 1959 at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec and from 1957 to 1968 at Laval University . Her most famous students were Serge Garant , Gilles Tremblay and Monique Vachon .

In addition to four large orchestral pieces, Binet composed chamber music works, vocal music and songs . In 1946 she received the composition prize of the Composers, Authors and Publishers Association of Canada (CAPAC).
