Jochen Arnold

Jochen Arnold (born December 28, 1967 in Marbach am Neckar , Baden-Württemberg ) is a Protestant theologian and church musician . He is director of the Michaeliskloster Hildesheim - Evangelical Center for Worship and Church Music of the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Hanover .

Career

Jochen Arnold passed the church music examination in 1986 and graduated from the Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium Marbach in 1987 . The community service followed until 1989 in a parish in downtown Stuttgart .

From 1989 to 1996 he studied Protestant theology in Tübingen and the Waldensian Faculty in Rome and in 1991 became cantor at the Protestant Christ Church in Rome . From 1992 to 1998 he studied Protestant church music at the State University for Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart , from which Arnold graduated with the A-exam. In addition, from 1993 to 1999 he was cantor at the Kreuzkirche in Reutlingen .

In addition to his participation in the Stuttgart Chamber Choir as a tenor and continuo organist, he was in charge of the vocal soloist ensemble Gli Scarlattisti from 1995 and of the Reutlingen gospel choir from 1997 to 2003. From 1997 to 1999 he completed postgraduate studies in popular music at the University of Church Music in Esslingen and Tübingen .

Arnold received his doctorate in theology from 1996 to 2003 in Tübingen with a thesis on the theology of worship. From 1999 to 2001 he was vicar at the Marienkirche in Reutlingen and passed the second theological exam. In January 2002 he was ordained as a Protestant pastor.

In 2002/2003 Arnold took on a teaching position at the parish seminary of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg in the subjects of worship and sermon as well as pastoral theology.

Since 2004 Jochen Arnold has been director of the Michaeliskloster Hildesheim - Evangelical Center for Worship and Church Music of the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Hanover.

In 2007 he completed his habilitation on the cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach .

In November 2018, the Synod of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia nominated Jochen Arnold as one of three candidates for the office of bishop to succeed the current incumbent Markus Dröge from November 2019. Arnold was defeated by Stäblein in the election that took place during the spring meeting of the regional synod took place on April 5, 2019, in the second ballot with 29 out of a total of 113 votes.

Act

Arnold wrote publications in the fields of theology and church music and held lectureships for choral conducting and theology at the University of Hildesheim and - since 2007 - for Protestant theology at the Hanover University of Applied Sciences .
