Jochen Hinsching

Jochen Hinsching (* 1938 ) is a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

Hinsching, who came from Vogtland , started a teaching degree in sports and history at the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig in 1956 and graduated in 1959. He then worked as a teacher before returning to the DHfK and taking up a position as a research assistant there. In 1971 he moved to the Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald . In 1984 he submitted his habilitation with the title Sports-sociological investigations into sports in the after- school care center . He was later appointed to a professorship there and was head of the work area sports education and sports sociology. During the GDR era, he was a member of the Sports Sociology Commission at the Scientific Council for Physical Culture and Sport. From 1998 to 2003, Hinsching was director of the sports institute at the University of Greifswald. From 1991 to 1995 Hinsching was a member of the board of the German Association for Sports Science (DVS). He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Olympic Academy and Olympic Education.

In 1997 he brought out the book “School Sports and School Sports Research in East Germany 1945-1990” together with Albrecht Hummel as part of the series “Sport Developments in Germany” . In 1998 Hinsching published the book "Everyday Sport in the GDR". He was one of the editors of the publication "On the history of the Greifswalder Sports Institute".

His scientific focal points included childhood research, social aspects of school sport and the social change in sport.
