Jochen Roos

Jochen Roos (* 1944 ) is a German breaststroke swimmer who won the first German championship title in an individual race for Wasserfreunde Wuppertal .

Roos, trained by Heinz Hoffmann , became German champion over 100 m in 1962 in a time of 1: 13.6 minutes. Unlike his smaller club mate Willi Donners , who became champion in the 200 m the following year, Roos preferred a more gliding style.

Rolf Müller , Hessian politician and LSB chairman of Hesse, stated in an interview in 2008 about the three years older, irreproachable sportsman:

“There was a breaststroke swimmer, Jochen Roos from Wuppertal; I swam against it three times and each time I had the impression that I wasn't swimming, that I was standing. I don't know why that was the one who had something like power over me. "

When asked about his experiences from altitude training for the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico, where his former club mate Michael Holthaus won a bronze medal in the 400 m individual medal, Roos, who later became a sports teacher, replied: "We were always good on the coast."

After his retirement, Roos' appearances at Masters competitions increased, now starting for SG Wuppertal . In 2013 he still achieved a time of 1: 29.64 over 100 m, in 2014 in age group 70 over 50 m 42.0 s.
