Joe Abercrombie (born December 31, 1974 in Lancaster ) is an English author of fantasy novels , best known for the trilogy The First Law and the other novels set in the same fictional universe as well as the Shattered Sea trilogy.

Life

Joe Abercrombie was born in Lancaster, England in 1974 . He studied psychology at the University of Manchester and worked as a freelance screenwriter after graduating in London .

After working on a fantasy trilogy about a barbaric hero during his student days, he took up the idea again in 2002. Abercrombie finished the first part of The Blade Itself in 2004, the novel was published two years later by the British publisher Gollancz . Heyne Verlag has been publishing the " First Law " trilogy in German since 2007 . The translation is by Kirsten Borchardt. There were also translations into other European languages. His novels were received positively by the critics.

Due to the success of the trilogy, Abercrombie has completed three more volumes that are set in the same world ( Best Served Cold as well as The Heroes and Red Country ). In January 2011 he signed a contract for four more books with the publisher Gollancz, which is an independent plot and a trilogy.

The first book of the new Shattered Sea trilogy called Half a King was published in July 2014. In German, the book was published in January 2015 under the title King's Oath . The German translation for this trilogy is also by Kirsten Borchardt. The other books in the trilogy (which was completed in July 2015) are called Half the World and Half a War . In April 2016, the short story book Sharp Ends , set in the world of The First Law, appeared , and in September 2019, A Little Hatred, the first part of a new trilogy called The Age of Madness , which also takes place in the The First Law universe.

Abercrombie lives in London with his family.
