Joseph Charles "Joe" Osmanski (born December 26, 1917 in Providence , Rhode Island , USA , † July 24, 1993 in Chicago , Illinois ), nickname : Little Joe was an American football player . He played fullback in the National Football League (NFL), including with the Chicago Bears .

Player career

Like his brother Bill Osmanski , Joe Osmanski studied at the College of the Holy Cross . He played fullback for their football team. In 1941 he was selected by the Washington Redskins in the 18 lap 170 stop drafted . Due to his military service in World War II , he could only start his playing career in 1946 after the Redskins had given him to the Chicago Bears. The coach of the Bears was George Halas , who used Joe Osmanski in the team's offense as fullback. The Bears were a top team in the NFL that had numerous all-star players such as quarterback Sid Luckman , running back George McAfee or the offensive line players Bulldog Turner and Ed Sprinkle in their ranks. Joe Osmanski Bill's brother was also under contract with the Bears. Osmanski won the NFL title in his rookie year with the Bears team. In the 1946 NFL final, the Giants had to admit defeat 24:14.

In the 1949 season Joe Osmanski moved to the New York Bulldogs and ended his career after that season. After his playing career, he became a football coach for high school football teams in Chicago. Joe Osmanski is buried in Maryhill Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleum in Niles, Illinois.
