Joel Frederiksen

Joel Frederiksen (* 1959 ) is an American bassist and lutenist and director of the Ensemble Phoenix Munich .

biography

Frederiksen studied singing and lute in New York and Michigan (Oakland University), where he obtained his master's degree. Since then he has worked with American early music ensembles such as the Boston Camerata and the Waverly Consort.

After his 1998 Salzburg Festival debut in Kurt Weill's “Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny” under Dennis Russel-Davies , Joel Frederiksen settled in Europe. From Munich he travels in Germany and abroad (collaboration with Paul O'Dette, Stephen Stubbs , Jordi Savall , Hille Perl , Diabolus in musica, Huelgas Ensemble, Ensemble Gilles Binchois , Freiburg Baroque Orchestra ). In addition, Joel Frederiksen devotes himself to his specialty with his own program concepts: the lute song of the Renaissance and early Baroque.

In 2003, Joel Frederiksen founded the Ensemble Phoenix Munich , which has been touring worldwide since 2007 and has presented the concert series “Between Mars and Venus” in the Bavarian National Museum in Munich.

He lives in Munich.
