Joel Sang

Joel Sang (born May 15, 1950 in Pärnu ) is an Estonian poet , writer , literary critic and publisher .

life and work

Joel Sang was born the son of the Estonian poet August Sang (1914–1969) and his wife, the Estonian writer Kersti Merilaas (1913–1986). He graduated in 1974 with a degree in Estonian Philology at the University of Tartu from. In 1980 he acquired the title of cand. Phil. From 1987 to 1993 he worked at the Institute for Language and Literature of the Estonian Academy of Sciences . Since 1991 he has been head of the Estonian publishing house Vagabund .

Sang first appeared as a poet in 1971. At that time his poems appeared together with three other authors in the volume Närvitrükk . Her own anthologies of poetry followed: Abisõnad (1983) and Vigade parandus (1988). Sang also writes song books such as the children's song book Loomariik (1991) and libretti . He is known as a translator from Finnish , Russian and English .
