Johan Callmer

Johan Callmer (born November 8, 1945 in Lund ) is a Swedish prehistorian and medieval archaeologist .

After attending school in Lund, Callmer first studied Slavic studies, then prehistory and early history. In 1977 he received his doctorate from Lund University . From 1991 he was professor at Umeå University , from 1993 to September 30, 2007 he was professor for prehistory with a focus on medieval archeology at Humboldt University in Berlin .

Callmer deals with theoretical archeology, archaeological cultural landscape research, trade and exchange in the 1st millennium from an archaeological point of view and the archeology of Northern and Eastern Europe between 400 and 1200.
