Johan Cesar Godeffroy (born January 24, 1838 in Hamburg ; † November 6, 1912 there ) was a German businessman and Hanseatic .

Life

Johan Cesar Godeffroy came from the Huguenot family Godeffroy , who had settled in Hamburg from Berlin in the first half of the 18th century. His parents were Johan Cesar Godeffroy (1813-1885) and Emily Hanbury (1815-1894). Gustav Godeffroy was his uncle. On January 1, 1862, he joined the company Joh. Ces. Godeffroy & Son . Due to a lack of liquidity , the company stopped making payments on December 1, 1879.

In 1878 parts of the company Joh. Cesar Godeffroy & Sohn were converted into the stock corporation Deutsche Handels- und Plantagengesellschaft der Südseeinseln zu Hamburg . Cesar Godeffroy was chairman of the company's board of directors until 1881 and then director from 1881 to 1896. From 1888 Godeffroy was a partner and from 1905 chairman of the Jaluit Society . He was a member of the supervisory board of Société commerciale de l'Océanie from 1876, and from 1896 as chairman.

In 1872 Godeffroy was elected to the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce , in 1877 he served as President. Through the Chamber of Commerce he was also a member of the Hamburg citizenship from 1876 to 1877 and during this time also worked in the deputation for trade and shipping.
