Johan Dankmeijer (born October 26, 1907 in Amsterdam , † September 12, 1973 in Oegstgeest ) was a Dutch anatomist.

Life

Johan was the son of Hendrik Frederik Dankmeijer (* around 1870 - † July 27, 1923 in Amsterdam) and his wife Maria Elisabeth Brinkbok, who married on March 18, 1897 (* around September 1873 in Amsterdam; † January 11, 1930 in Amsterdam). He attended high school in Amsterdam and began studying medicine at the University of Amsterdam in 1924 . In 1932 he had passed his medical exam and became an assistant at the university there. In 1933 he moved to the anatomical laboratory of the University of Utrecht as a main assistant , received his doctorate in medicine in Utrecht in 1934 with the thesis De beteekenis van vingerafdrukken voor het anthropologische onderzoek to the doctor of medicine and in 1935 moved as an assistant to the maternity hospital in Utrecht. In 1936 he became a prosector at the anatomical laboratory of the University of Leiden , completed his habilitation there in 1941 as a private lecturer and from 1946 worked as a prosector and private lecturer at the University of Zurich .

On March 7, 1947, he was appointed associate professor of anatomy at the University of Leiden, which task he took up on December 19, 1947 with the speech problems in de modern ontleedkunde. On January 17, 1949 he was promoted to the full professorship of anatomy and embryology, he also taught from February 26, 1955 at the Faculty of Philosophy and from September 1, 1963 at the Faculty of Social Sciences physical anthropology. In the academy year 1965/66 he became rector of the alma mater and became a member of many anatomy associations at home and abroad. For example, he was a corresponding member of the Koninklijke Academie van Geneeskunde in Belgium, an honorary member of the American Rhinologic Society and a member of the Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen . In 1971 he was appointed Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion , Officer of the Ordre des Palmes Académiques and Commander of the Order of the Republic of Tunisia. He wrote about 150 individual treatises, including historical studies by Herman Boerhaave , Leonardo da Vinci , René Descartes and Andreas Vesalius .

Dankmeijer married Magdalena Gertrud Martha Welz on September 10, 1939 in Oegstgeest (born January 11, 1910 in Bremen; † August 24, 1997 in Oegstgeest). There are three sons and two daughters from the marriage. From the children we know:
