Johan Friedrich Leonard Dreier (born April 7, 1775 in Trondheim , † December 16, 1833 in Bergen , Norway ) was a Norwegian painter, draftsman and illustrator.
Life
Dreier, who also gave painting lessons, began working as a traveling artist on the west coast of Norway around 1789. Since around 1795 it has also been documented by signatures. He created miniature portraits, extensively documented folk costumes as well as the country and people in the region around Bergen, where he became a permanent resident around 1801. His drawings of folk costumes were published in book form by Einar Lexow for the Norsk Folkemuseum in 1917 . His lively and exact city brochures of Bergen and other cities in Norway convey a picture of urban life at the beginning of the 19th century. His vedute belong to the collections of the museums in Bergen, but his drawings also came into the possession of the British Museum in London.
